When Morning Comes

April 2026. Age 22.

When morning comes

I used to say

I know that I

won’t look away

but I might freeze

in place, in fear

watching the world

become more clear

So when dawn broke

a brand new day

I did not think

I’d live to say

that dawn is fair

and warm, and bright

and birds, my friends

announce the light

So I sat still

for once, to breathe

and give my heart

the space to grieve

a time in which

I could not know

it is not just

sunsets that glow
